Statutory Sick Pay – Now from Day One
- Apr 22
- 1 min read

From April 2026, Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) is now paid from the first day of sickness absence, replacing the previous 3-day waiting period.
There are also key changes to eligibility – the lower earnings limit has been removed, meaning more employees now qualify for SSP, including lower-paid and part-time workers.
SSP is now paid at £123.25 per week or 80% of average weekly earnings (whichever is lower), for up to 28 weeks.
Employers should review their sickness policies and ensure payroll is updated in line with the new rules.
